Building backlinks is hard. Entrepreneurs hate link building. Search Engines hate link building. But we still build links for SEO? Here’s why I hate link building and so does Google. ********** To compete online, you have to build links. A link building strategy is absolutely necessary for most online businesses. Even if it’s a simple link building strategy. However, everyone literally hates link building. Entrepreneurs, internet marketers, online business owners, and event the search engines themselves… ALL hate link building. Google doesn’t want you to build links. Google hates link building. Google wants backlinks to your website to occur naturally. However, when you first get started, you can’t rank without backlinks. Kind of a “Catch 22” here. How will people find your website to link to, if you don’t have any links to your website, and therefore can’t be found? Crazy right? Basically, you have to go ahead and build links yourself. Believe me, in most cases, your competitors are building backlinks themselves as part of their SEO strategy. Start with profile links. Links on your business profiles will be considered natural. This is because most businesses will link to their websites on their social media, and other online profiles. So start with that. Whatever you do, never pay for links to your website. Read that again… Never pay for links to YOUR website. Period. Paying for links to your website is against Google’s policy and is a “Big No-No” for link building. Remember that. When you DO “build links” to your website, it takes time for them to take effect. Usually it takes 2 to 6 weeks for Google to detect them, crawl them, and them for them to affect your website. Remember, links don’t always improve your website rank. Sometimes it does nothing. Other times, it can affect your website negatively. There are a few really great ways to get links naturally. Design infographics for your website. People love sharing and linking to infographics. Then promote your infographics to other websites and on social media. Statistics are also a great way to get links. People love linking to statistics for different things. When your website is new, you have to build some links yourself. But you can’t just put links anywhere on the web. You need to put have links that come from relevant and high quality places on the internet. Did your mom ever tell you, “Be careful who you hang out with. You don’t want a bad reputation.” Link building is the same. If you get links from small and sketchy websites, Google will consider you small and sketchy. If you get links from awesome, reputable websites, Google will consider you awesome and reputable. Makes sense, right? In this video, we will talk more about why I hate link building, Google hates link building, and why you will hate link building as well.
